TJR breaks while leading Slocum 50
Friday night saw Tony Jackson Jr. return with the Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association (MLRA) at 34 Raceway (West Burlington, Iowa) for the 12th annual Slocum 50. In a field of 35 cars, Tony followed up the fourth fastest time in his group with a 10-lap heat race victory. Earning the third-starting position for the $10,555-to-win A-Main, Jackson Jr. slide into the lead on the third lap and looked to have his first five-figure victory locked up until mechanical issues struck. The following night at 300 Raceway (Farley, Iowa) for the Independence Day Shootout, Jackson Jr. edged his way into the $5,000-to-win A-Main with a fifth place finish in his heat. Rolling off 15th, Tony was an early retiree from the 40-lapper on lap 18.
For the $6,000-to-win finale on Sunday, Tony headed to Bullring at RICo Fairgrounds (East Moline, Ill.) for the Bull Ring Bullseye 40. Following a fifth place finish in his heat, Jackson Jr. passed four cars in the 44-lap feature to place ninth.
Tony sits in fourth in the latest MLRA point standings.
