Jackson Jr. opens MLRA season with Top 5 runs
On Friday evening Tony Jackson Jr. visited Randolph County Raceway (Moberly, Mo.) to kick off the Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Association (MLRA) 2020 slate. In a field of 36 cars, Jackson Jr. followed up the fifth fastest time in his group with a 10-lap heat race victory. Earning the second-starting position for the opening night feature, Tony overtook Shannon Babb for the lead on the tenth lap before surrendering back the top spot on a restart. Hanging on to a Top-5 finish in the remaining distance, Jackson Jr. notched a fourth place spot behind Babb, Ryan Gustin, and Chad Simpson with Will Vaught coming in fifth. (Mike Ruefer photo)
The following night at Maquoketa Speedway (Maquoketa, Iowa), Tony edged his way into the $5,000-to-win A-Main with a fourth place finish in his heat. Rolling off 15th, Jackson Jr, advanced forward four spots in the 40-lapper to place 11th.
Wrapping up the MLRA tripleheader on Sunday, Jackson stopped at West Liberty Raceway (West Liberty, Iowa) for the $5,000-to-win finale. After laying down the third fastest lap in his group, Tony posted a second place finish in his heat behind Brian Birkhofer, which positioned him sixth on the starting grid for the main event. Gaining momentum late in the race, Jackson Jr. clawed forward to a third place finish, trailing Billy Moyer Sr. and Tyler Bruening across the line with Tony Toste and Mitch McGrath rounding out the Top-5.
With the first weekend in the books, Tony is currently fourth in the Lucas Oil MLRA point standings.
