TJR snags two-win weekend
Tony Jackson Jr. returned with the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) on Thursday afternoon as the series kicked off its tripleheader weekend at Maquoketa Speedway (Maquoketa, Iowa). With 17 Late Models entered, Jackson Jr. recorded the seventh fastest time in time trials before passing three cars in his heat race to pick up the win. Regaining the lead from fellow front-row starter Jeremiah Hurst amid lapped-traffic with 11 circuits remaining, Tony soared to his second win of the season over Chris Simpson, Hurst, Garrett Alberson, and Chad Simpson. On Friday afternoon at Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wis.), Tony improved one spot in his heat race to capture the 10-lap victory. Leading wire-to-wire in the 50-lap feature, Jackson Jr. cruised to his second win in as many nights and third overall of the season. He took the checkers ahead of Jeremiah Hurst, A.J. Diemel, Jake Timm, and Mason Oberkramer to claim $10,000.
For the weekend finale on Saturday at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minn.), Jackson Jr., logged a sixth-place finish in his heat, which positioned him 17th on the starting grid for the $4,000-to-win finale. Breaking into the Top-10, Tony passed seven cars in the 40-lapper to register a 10th-place finish.
Tony has extended his lead atop the Lucas MLRA point standings.
