12th-place finish in DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia
Monday night saw Tony Jackson Jr. return to action at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) for the 50th annual DIRTcar Nationals. In a stout field of 51 Late Models, Jackson Jr. made the decision to scratch from the remainder of the evening after cutting a tire down during his qualifying session.
The following night for another $7,000-to-win A-Main, Tony fell one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a fourth place finish, transferring him into the B-Main. On Wednesday night as the remainder of the weekend shifted under the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series banner, Jackson Jr. followed up a fifth place finish in his heat with a runner-up finish in his B-Main behind Ricky Weiss. Starting the $10,000-to-win A-Main in 23rd, Tony marched through the field 11 spots to register a 12th-place finish.
For the fourth round of the 50th annual DIRTcar Nationals on Thursday, Tony posted a fifth place finish in his heat, sending him into the B-Main. Grabbing the second and final transfer spot, Jackson Jr. locked into the 24th-starting position for the feature. With $10,000 on the line, Tony improved seven spots in the 40-lapper to finish 17th.
With the field reduced to 38 cars on Friday night, Jackson Jr. laid down the fourth fastest time in his qualifying group before placing second in his heat behind Brandon Overton. Starting the feature in fifth, Tony was battling for a podium spot early in the 40-lapper but began fading back late to finish 17th when the checkered flag flew.
Saturday night’s $10,000-to-win finale fell victim to Mother Nature.
