Jackson Jr. claims best finish of 4th in pair of MARS events
Tony Jackson Jr. joined the Midwest Auto Racing Series (MARS) over the weekend for the tour’s events at Jacksonville Speedway (Jacksonville, Illinois) and Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway (Peveley, Missouri).
On Friday, Jackson’s Superior Power No. 56 Late Model was one of 23 MARS entries at the quarter-mile Jacksonville track. Jackson turned in a second-place effort in his heat race, putting him fifth on the grid for the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win main event. He moved forward one spot in the feature to come home fourth behind Jason Feger, Ryan Unzicker and Mike Harrison. Bob Gardner rounded out the top five.
The following evening saw 33 MARS entries take on the 1/3-mile I-55 Raceway for another $5,000-to-win program. Jackson finished fourth in his heat and began the 40-lap A-Main from the 15th spot.
Near the beginning of the race a melee ensued near the front of the field and Jackson was caught up, ripping off his car’s deck and spoiler. The right-rear wheel was also hit hard enough to bend the rear end.
Jackson was credited with a 17th-place finish and the damage was severe enough to send his team home for the weekend.
